Ten days into November and we have another new car in the market. But this one is completely different and radical. One of the fastest four seater sedans in India gets more power and becomes even crazier on the road and yet remains luxuriously comfortable. Say hello to the 2016 Audi RS7 Performance edition.
Priced at Rs 1.59 crore (and that’s ex-showroom mind you), this 605 bhp sedan can shame a few Supercars and yet can be your daily drive to office. It has the same 4.0-litre TFSI bi-turbo engine with eight cylinders stacked in a V format but puts out 45 extra horses. Maximum torque stands at 700 Nm and be pushed further to 750 Nm via the overboost function. Numbers? Standstill to hundred comes up in 3.7 seconds and top speed is 305 km/h with the dynamic package plus, 55km/h more than the Rs 2.25 crore S Cabriolet launched yesterday.
Like most other high performance Audi sedans, the RS7 Performance also gets the Quattro set-up. The engine comes mated to an eight speed tiptronic automatic gearbox and you can pick from four modes via the selector button located on the steering itself. Fuel economy is rated at 10.5kmpl under test conditions – this will drop to about 6-7 kmpl in city but will rise to 9-10kmpl at highway speeds IMO. You also get a RS adaptive air suspension that lowers the car by as much as 20 mm.
The RS7 Performance gets LED Matrix headlamp, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels (21-inch are optional), optional carbon fibre ceramic disc brakes. This model also gets quattro logo on the air inlet duct and add-on parts in matt titanium look to distinguish from the regular version.
The cabin too gets additional Performance treatment. The dial instruments feature black faces, white dials and red needles. RS logos and screens adorn the key, the flat-bottomed, three-spoke, multifunction steering wheel, the illuminated entry sills, the tachometer, the large driver information system display and the power-retractable monitor of the MMI navigation plus system. The selector lever features a knob covered in perforated leather with an RS badge, and the shift paddles have an aluminum-look finish. Additional highlights are provided by trim elements with aluminum and piano look finishes as well as carbon inlays. RS sport seats with pronounced side bolsters and integrated head restraints are standard.
