Ford recently showcased the new updated version of its compact SUV, the 2017 EcoSport. Slated for an Indian launch next year, the new EcoSport gets an updated exterior, new cabin design and added features. Engine options for India will remain the same.
The new EcoSport has a revised front end. Highlights include the new headlamps, narrower hood lip, new grille design and an all-new bumper that also houses the new larger fog lamps. The EcoSport also gets a redesigned skid plate at both the ends.
We also love the new alloy wheels – they look brilliant. The model you see here does not have a boot mounted spare wheel but the Indian version will continue to get one. The rear profile remains more or less the same as the current model.
Ford has reworked the cabin extensively. Everything from the steering wheel to the central console is new. Even the speedometer console gets revised. The new EcoSport also gets a proper climate control and an all new infotainment system with a large touchscreen system. As compared to the black and silver theme on the current model, the new one adopts a more sporty black and orange combination.
The Indian version, when launched, will continue to be offered with a choice of two petrol and one diesel engine option. The petrol units include a 1.0-litre turbocharged option (manual) or a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated that comes with an automatic transmission. The diesel unit is a 1.5-litre engine that is also seen in the Figo and Aspire. It offers almost 100 bhp of power and is pretty efficient too. Dynamically, the EcoSport is a sorted car and we don’t think Ford will tinker with it on that front.
Ford had slashed the EcoSport’s prices earlier this year and has been coming up with new versions every now and then. The latest was the Signature Edition (click to read) launched recently. Rivals have also been coming up with additions like these – the Mahindra TUV300 dual tone.
