Mahindra has been working on a long wheelbase version of the TUV300. This will most probably replace the Xylo and might be called the TUV500. The Xylo has not been doing great numbers while on the other hand, the TUV brand has been well accepted by customers (see this new dual tone TUV)
On my recent trip to Manali, I managed to spot a convoy of Mahindra vehicles headed up towards North. The convoy included a Bolero, a TUV300, a TUV500 and a XUV500. All except the Bolero had TN test plates which means this new long wheelbase 7-seater TUV could be made at their Chennai facility.
As visible in images here, the TUV500 gets a longer wheelbase along with increased passenger leg space. The last row of seats will be forward facing like most other 7-seaters. It might also come powered by a bigger 2.2-litre mHawk engine, the same seen on the Scorpio and the XUV. Mahindra will position it just under the Scorpio which means a starting price of around Rs 8-9 lakh.
If Mahindra can come with optional AMT or Automatic along with optional 4×4 with the TUV500, they will definately have a winner on their hands.
