Renault has launched the much awaited automatic version of the Kwid hatchback at Rs 4.25 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. To be made available only in one version, the top end RXT (O), this AMT version is only Rs 30,000 more expensive than the regular manual version. Note, the Kwid AMT comes with a 68 PS 1.0-litre petrol engine.
The Renault Kwid AMT comes with a 5-speed gearbox and has what the company terms as the SHIFT CONTROL AMT DIAL. This dial allows you to toggle between three modes of R (reverse), N (neutral) and D (drive). There is no conventional gear lever which also frees a lot of space between the front two seats. Driver side airbag is standard and you also get a first in segment 7″ touch screen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity.
We see this as a very clever move by Renault. The Kwid already enjoys a market demand and they are clearly targeting modern and young buyers with the AMT as it is only being offered in the top end version. Pricing is fantastic and the Kwid now makes for a brilliant city runabout. Feature loaded, spacious and easy to drive!
The Kwid offers segment leading length, best in class power to weight ratio, highest boot space, best ground clearance and feature list includes SUV inspired design, digital Instrument cluster, one-touch lane change indicator, radio speed dependent volume control, pro-sense seat belt pre-tensioners with load limiters etc. There are five color options on offer : Fiery Red, Ice Cool White, Moon Light Silver, Outback Bronze and Planet Grey. Bookings are now open which can done via dealerships or through the Renault KWID App.
