Ford India wasn’t the same ten years back. Yes, not only were their products completely different, the same was true for ownership and after-sales experience. It was not really the best. We too had a Ford in the family back then, and it was none other than the Ikon 1.6, the original josh machine. However, maintaining it was a pain, so much so that my father never wanted to look at a Ford again.
Fast forward to 2017 and Ford is really making the right moves. Awesome products and much lower cost of ownership – by this I don’t only mean the scheduled service costs but also cost of spares that have gone down drastically due to the introduction of ‘child part’ system. I had an opportunity to be at Ford’s Manesar based technical center yesterday and the session was really an eye opener of sorts.
Let me start with the cost of scheduled services first. I have a lot of cars from various manufacturers in the family. These include a Chevrolet Beat, a Honda Amaze, Hyundai i20 and Grand i10, the Mahindra XUV500 and a Maruti DZire. And trust me, the cost of servicing these cars every few months is no joke. Add to it the fact that most service advisors will end up adding unwanted stuff in the job card that makes sure the workshop makes a huge profit isn’t the best feeling around as an owner. Ford India not only promises to remove all these unwanted incidents, but the cost of service itself is very competitive. Lets have a look!
